The IB PYP is a student-centered inquiry-based approach to education that promotes international mindedness, action within the community, and active participation in a world language for all students and staff.
Semper is currently an authorized IB school. We are one of three elementary schools in the district who offer the Primary Years Programme. There is a continuous IB pathway, Kindergarten through 12 grades in the Standley Lake articulation area.
Primary Years Programme
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a curriculum framework for young learners aged 3–12 designed by the International Baccalaureate (IB). Founded on a philosophy that recognizes a child’s natural curiosity, creativity and ability to reflect, the PYP generates a stimulating, challenging learning environment to nurture those assets and foster a lifelong love of learning in every child. The PYP is transdisciplinary, meaning students learn across subject areas while investigating big ideas.
The PYP prepares students to become active, caring, lifelong learners who demonstrate respect for themselves and others and have the capacity to participate in the world around them. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within and beyond the classroom.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) program was founded in 1967 to provide a rigorous, well-rounded education for students throughout the world. The IB prepares students for adulthood by enhancing skills in creativity, critical thinking, technology and international understanding.
Students may earn college credit for the IB exams by scoring a four or higher. Students who complete the IB Diploma Programme shall, at a minimum, receive 24 semester credits. These credits can apply to general education, elective or major requirements (at the institution’s discretion). The credit is guaranteed to transfer but it’s not guaranteed to apply to degree requirements. Please contact the colleges you wish to attend to see how your IB scores will be accepted.
